As for the chateau history, it is said that a young and pretty widow, who owned the estate was nicknamed the Gasparde as she often visited the Baron Gaspard from T...., her neighbour. The origin of the Château la gasparde goes back to 1776, at a time when it depended on the Château la Pierrière.

54.jpgIt is Jean-Pierre Janoueix who runs this estate and pays close attention to the quality of the wines. The wine-tasting room is a veritable museum that takes you back to the battle of Castillon with the help model reconstructions and frescoes. This was the battle in 1453 that marked the end of the One Hundred Years. War and the Aquitaine was handed back to the French. You will find an impressive collection of weaponry (crossbows, spears etc) and the French artillery's first canons created by the masters of artillery, the Bureau brothers, as well as costumes and uniforms and helmets from the middle ages.

Today, this château is part of the Joseph Janoueix family estate, and has strongly contibutes for around a century to the reputation of the Libourne wines.

Wine tasting

Château la Gasparde - Côtes de Castillon 2006

A granate colour with orange hues. A closed bouquet with notes of cacao and coffee. The palate is marked by notes of oak and preserved red berries. The finish is round, dominated by soft tannins. A wine ready to drink with meals such as pigeon and poultry.
