Localization: about 500 meters away from the medieval city of Saint-Emilion, Châteaux Vieux Sarpe rises over limestone plateau, located between Château Trottevieille (Premier Grand Cru Classé) and Haut Sarpe (Grand Cru Classé).

Soils: clay and limestone soil.

A bit of history: Roman emperor Valerius Probus (232-282), a century and a half after Domitien destroyed the Aquitaine vineyards, converted his army of legionaries into colonists that replanted vines in furrows dug inside calcareous rocks. Visitors can still notice traces of this method in Vieux Sarpe, which is one of the most ancient and famous vineyards of Saint-Emilion.
