A bit of history : lin 1514, Jean de Valon, Abbot Commander of the Malta order, named Brother Mathieu Bossuet in charge of the Saint-Jean-de-Pomeyrol patrimony. This Saint man used to rest and read in the peaceful atmosphere and recite "Les Litanies" of the Blessed Virgin in these vineyards. The winegrowers themselves gave name to Le Clos des Litanies to remember their pious priest.
Soil : sandy on very ferruginous soils.
Grapes : only Merlot
Average production : 5000 chef d’oeuvre estate bottled.
Character of the wine: delicate, elegant and complex nose, beautiful bottle (what you can expect from a good Pomerol), smoothness, complexity and remarkable structure. This vintage is part of the very finest. The only reason why a very large number of people is yet to taste it: its small size.
Prizes awarded : Harvest 1986: Gold Medal at the Grands de France Contest (Blayais)
